Liga dei Veneti
Liga dei Veneti (League of the Venetians, LdV) was a short-lived Venetist political party active in Veneto.
LdV was founded in 1999 by a group of splinters of Liga Veneta Repubblica (and, before, of Liga Veneta) led by Mariangelo Foggiato, regional councillor and party president, and Antonio Serena, senator. They dissented on the alliance with Forza Italia prospected by Fabrizio Comencini, LVR national secretary.〔Francesco Jori, ''Dalla Łiga alla Lega. Storia, movimenti, protagonisti'', Marsilio, Venice 2009, pp. 115-117〕
The party did not qualify for the 2000 regional election and by 2001 it was abandoned by Serena, who wanted to retain his Parliament seat and joined National Alliance, an Italian conservative party, in order to do that (successfully).〔(Chamber of Deputies – Antonio Serena's biographical profile )〕
Foggiato, for his part, was one of the promoters of North-East Project in 2004 and was elected again to the Regional Council of Veneto in the 2005 regional election. In that occasion he obtained more than 10,000 preference votes, trailing the party to a resounding 15.6% of the vote in the Province of Treviso.〔(Ministry of the Interior – Historical Electoral Archive )〕
